Since 2014 HMRC has moved to a digital-first approach. Physical enquiry centres are no longer open to the public. The fastest ways to resolve most HMRC queries are online or by phone.
Sign in to your HMRC online account at gov.uk/personal-tax-account to manage your tax, view your National Insurance record, update your details and more. The HMRC app is also available for mobile devices.
Call the relevant helpline (see numbers above). Have your National Insurance number, Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and any reference numbers from letters ready before calling.
If you need to visit an HMRC office in person, you must book an appointment in advance. HMRC also runs outreach visits to libraries and community centres for people who need face-to-face help. Contact HMRC to arrange this.
Use the postal addresses in the table above for your specific department. Always include your National Insurance number or UTR in any correspondence.
