How Jobcentre Plus works
Jobcentre Plus is part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It provides employment services and administers working-age benefits across the UK. There are around 600 Jobcentre Plus offices in Great Britain.
Do I need to visit in person?
Most Universal Credit claims are made online at gov.uk/universal-credit. After making a claim you will usually be invited to attend an appointment at your local Jobcentre to meet your work coach. Ongoing appointments are typically every 2-4 weeks depending on your circumstances.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland operates a separate benefits system. Jobcentre Plus functions are provided by Jobs & Benefits offices run by the Department for Communities. Call 028 9033 6000 or visit nidirect.gov.uk for more information.
